The mission of the Center for Global Inquiry + Innovation (CGII) is to stimulate research addressing problems and challenges of global scale, scope, concern, perspective, and impact. “Global research/inquiry” is an elastic term that links the local and the planetary, aims to expand the compass and range of disciplinary commitments and possibilities, and seeks to promote collaboration among UVa colleagues and with colleagues beyond UVa and outside the U.S.
To support this effort, the Center administers several types of grants open to UVa faculty and graduate students. We are particularly interested in proposals that outline innovative methods and promote cross-university and international collaborations. Global Programs of Distinction grants (GPOD; grant range = $20K-100K) will be offered in the fall of each academic year. Center grants (CG; grant range = $1K-20K) will be offered in the fall and spring of each academic year. Global Initiative grants (GIG) and Faculty Global Research with Undergraduates grants (FGRU) will be accepted on a rolling basis. Global Lunches provide low-hassle opportunities for interdisciplinary groups of 6-12 colleagues to set up an informal lunch series to discuss issues of global relevance.
